Florida (7-5) and Tulane (9-4) prepare for their bowl clash at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
For Florida, the season began on shaky ground with a 3-5 record, leaving many to question head coach Billy Napier's future. However, the Gators managed to turn things around with three consecutive wins, providing a much-needed boost to both the team and Napier’s tenure.
Despite the encouraging finish, Florida's program has been far from the powerhouse many expect, especially considering their last bowl win came in 2019 when they defeated Virginia in the Orange Bowl.
On the other hand, Tulane entered the 2024 season with high hopes, contending for a spot in the College Football Playoff with a 9-2 record. But a pair of late-season losses—first to Memphis and then to Army in the AAC Championship—derailed their playoff aspirations.
Despite this, the Green Wave has continued to show growth under head coach Jon Sumrall, who has led the program to become a staple in the bowl season. Tulane’s recent track record includes an upset win over USC in the Cotton Bowl two seasons ago and a narrow loss to Virginia Tech in last year’s Military Bowl.
