The Los Angeles Chargers are still smarting following their 20-point loss to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card round of the playoffs this past Saturday. Many fans of the team have had some less-than-positive things to say about the team's quarterback, Justin Herbert, who went 14-of-32 in the game and threw four interceptions.
Herbert is being blamed by many for the team's loss, but head coach Jim Harbaugh isn't having it. While addressing the media on Wednesday, Harbaugh made the following statement in relation to his quarterback.
"We did him a disservice and didn't put him in the positions to be successful, ... But he played like a beast."
General manager Joe Hortiz joined in, defending Herbert as well.
"If we're going to set a narrative on Justin off of two playoff games, that's absurd. What I watch this guy do, he's phenomenal. ... We roll with him. They're going to roll me out of here before they roll him out of here. I can promise you that. I mean, he's special, and special things are ahead for him."
Justin Herbert struggled mightily, but he's not the reason the Chargers lost to Houston
Herbert definitely played his worst game of the season on Saturday and threw more interceptions in one game (4) than he had the entire regular season (3), which was difficult to watch for Chargers fans.
But this is not a complete team, particularly on offense. Outside of Ladd McConkey, no one stepped up to help Herbert against Houston. Nine of his 14 completions went to McConkey and only two other passes were caught by a wide receiver.
The Texans, who played like a hungry team looking to advance, did not even have to get too creative to defend this Chargers squad.
The Chargers have some issues to address this offseason but the quarterback position is definitely not one of them.
