Bears predicted to swing blockbuster draft trade for Caleb Williams boost image

It was a rough rookie season at times for Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, but that's in the past.

The important thing for all parties is that the Bears quickly do what they can to improve Williams' situation. The signal-caller had plenty of shortcomings to work on, but the play of the rest of the offense around him wasn't acceptable, either.

In particular, the Chicago offensive line was putrid this season. Williams took 68 sacks, the most of any quarterback this season, and the Bears' 11.2% adjusted sack rate (per FTN Fantasy) was also the worst in the league.

Could Chicago make some bold moves on draft day to improve Williams' protection?

Yardbarker's NFL staff recently released predictions for all 16 NFC teams heading into the new season, and in the piece, the authors forecasted a trade that would give the Bears two first-round picks, allowing them to build up the offensive line extremely quickly.

"Chicago desperately needs to assemble an offensive line to protect QB Caleb Williams, the 2024 No. 1 selection. There's no better way to do so than by drafting two young stars," the authors wrote.

"The Bears can package their two early second-round picks (No. 39 and No. 41 overall) with other considerations to jump back into the first round, possibly snagging LSU tackle Will Campbell and/or Alabama guard Tyler Booker."

There's no doubt that the Bears could use help at both tackle and guard, and even starting center Coleman Shelton's job shouldn't be considered fully guaranteed. When you have the consensus worst line in the league, any and all solutions could be on the table.

The Bears have done a good job of building up excess draft capital, and cashing it in to address their biggest weakness would likely prove wise.
