College football will soon have a new national champion, with No. 7 Notre Dame and No. 8 Ohio State playing for the title Monday evening.
LIVE: Follow Ohio State vs. Notre Dame updates from 2025 CFP championship
The Fighting Irish did some early season soul-searching after a home loss to Northern Illinois, and they haven't looked back. Coach Marcus Freeman's team enters Monday on a 13-game winning streak.
In a thrilling semifinal victory over Penn State, Notre Dame flashed its championship mettle, overcoming a double-digit deficit and rallying from a fourth-quarter hole. Mitch Jeter knocked home the game-winning field goal with seven seconds to go to vault the Irish to the doorstep of their first national championship since 1988.
Ohio State had to confront its own demons after a fourth consecutive loss to Michigan to close the regular season. The uber-talented Buckeyes rebounded in stride, winning each of their first three playoff games by double-digit margins.
Now the Buckeyes can taste their first championship since 2014 — coincidentally, the first year of the College Football Playoff. Can they win it all in the first year of the 12-team format?
The Sporting News gets you set for Monday night, with everything that you need to know about watching Notre Dame vs. Ohio State.
