Sixth-seeded Penn State (11-2, 8-1) will take on no. 11 SMU (11-2, 8-0) in their first-round College Football Playoff game on Saturday.
Penn State Nittany Lions come into this match on the back of a 45-37 loss to the undefeated Oregon Ducks which served as an anti-climatic finish to an otherwise excellent regular season. The clash against SMU Mustangs will be the first time Penn State will play in a CFP game.
SMU Mustangs, similarly, ended their regular season on the back of a 34-31 loss to Clemson Tigers, boasting an 11-2 record just like Penn State.
This will be the first meeting between both sides in nearly fifty years, as they last clashed in 1978 with Penn State narrowly emerging victors with a 26-21 scoreline.
