New Red Sox superstar ace says he hasn't thought about signing an extension image

The Boston Red Sox made their biggest splash of the offseason this far by trading for superstar ace Garrett Crochet, but it seems Crochet hasn’t really considered his future with the Sox. In his first interview with Boston press, he said he hasn’t even thought about an extension.

“I really haven't had much time to give it a lot of thought. For me, this time of year, the main thing that I'm focused on is my training and getting ready for Spring Training. So you know, until I'm told otherwise, that's going to be my main focus”.

This past season, Crochet posted a 3.58 ERA, 209 strikeouts, and had a 12.9 K/9. He was also doing all of this on an innings restriction after coming back from a Tommy John surgery that had him sidelined all of the 2022 season with only 13 bullpen appearances in 2023.

Currently, the Sox will have control of Crochet for two more years, and then he will enter free agency. If the Sox are smart, they’ll push Crochet to sign an extension immediately. If they wait till after this season, he may ask for a lot more money. It’s better to extend him now for a lower price than wait and shell out that much more.
