The Detroit Lions still have the NFL playoffs to worry about, but once that's done — and hopefully ends with a Super Bowl — Detroit will turn its attention to the 2025 offseason.

No matter what happens in the postseason, the Lions are in fantastic shape, not just for next year, but for the long haul. The roster is young and loaded with talent after the fantastic job general manager Brad Holmes has done to build it up, and the equally impressive job head coach Dan Campbell has done to coach it up.

One position the Lions should look to address in the 2025 offseason is the edge rush group, which needs more depth and a long-term solution opposite Aidan Hutchinson.

The Lions figure to have their starting spots locked down for next season with Hutchinson and Za'Darius Smith, but their depth is extremely thin behind those two, which is especially glaring after Detroit's injury-plagued 2024 campaign.

If the Lions want to add another insurance policy, they should look to sign Dallas Cowboys veteran edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence, something Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox recently suggested they could do.

"The Lions, who have $69.8 million in projected cap space, should also be interested," Knox wrote. "Aidan Hutchinson should be healthy next season, but even after adding Za'Darius Smith at the trade deadline, Detroit could use more firepower on the edge."

Despite being a four-time Pro Bowler, Lawrence should come relatively cheap after playing out the final year of his $40 million contract in 2024.

Not only is he coming off an injury-riddled campaign that saw him tally just three sacks, he's also set to turn 33 in April. He may not be the same player he once was, but Lawrence would be a fantastic option to rotate in on passing downs.

And, at this stage of his career, Lawrence will likely be looking to join a contender that gives him a chance to win a Super Bowl. The Lions obviously fit that mold.

According to Over the Cap, the Lions are set to have $57.5 million in cap space this offseason, so they have more than enough to bring Lawrence in on what should be a one-year deal.

Ideally, we'd like the Lions to bring in someone younger with an eye on the future, as Smith and Lawrence are both long in the tooth. But having the former second-team All-Pro along with Smith and Hutchinson will allow the Lions to draft a young edge rusher who can be brought along slowly with an eye on 2026.
