The New England Patriots have acted quickly since firing head coach Jerod Mayo just hours after their 2024 regular-season finale.
In just over two weeks, they've hired Mike Vrabel to be their head coach and Josh McDaniels as offensive coordinator and kept on Jeremy Springer to run the special teams units.
Now, on Wednesday morning, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Patriots are hiring Detroit Lions defensive line coach/run-game coordinator Terrell Williams to be their defensive coordinator for 2025 and beyond.
Williams, 50, played collegiately at East Carolina before transitioning to coaching. In the college game, he had stops at Fort Scott, North Carolina A&T, Youngstown State, Akron, Purdue and Texas A7M before making the leap to the NFL in 2012 to the Oakland Raiders.
Between Oakland and Detroit, he also coached for the Miami Dolphins and Tennesee Titans.
Williams previously worked with Vrabel in Tennessee from 2018-23, serving as defensive line coach for the first five seasons and adding the assistant head coach title in his final year. This will be his first time as a coordinator.
