As injuries have mounted on the defensive side of the ball for the Detroit Lions in the 2024 season, head coach Dan Campbell's squad has been able to rely on its offense through it all.

The Lions entered the Week 16 game against the Chicago Bears with the league's best scoring offense, with the unit averaging 32.8 points per game over 14 contests. And, the unit picked up where it left off last week in the first half against the Bears on Sunday, dropping 27 points on Chicago over the first two quarters.

And, with that impressive showing in the first half against their division rival, the Lions broke multiple franchise records in the process.

Not only did the Lions break their franchise record for most points scored in a single season, which was previously 474, Detroit also broke its previous record for the most touchdowns scored in a campaign, which was 58.

In case you're wondering, the most points and touchdowns scored in a single season in NFL history is 606 and 76, respectively, with the 2013 Denver Broncos holding both marks. The Lions won't be passing those this season, unfortunately.

Even still, the fact that the Lions broke those franchise records with two-plus games left to play only makes it more impressive.

Last but certainly not least, the Lions' 13th win of the season is also a new franchise record for the most wins in a single season.

The Lions have sported one of the best offenses in the NFL for multiple years now, and that's why offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has been and will continue to be one of the most sought-after coaches in the league for head-coaching gigs.

Detroit has been able to retain its star coordinator through 2024, but there's a very good chance he'll be gone after this season.

"Yeah, I'd say this, I think there's a burning desire in every man to find what he's made out of, push the limits and see if he's got what it takes," Johnson said of his desire to be a head coach, per ESPN's Eric Woodyard.

"So, yeah, there's a fire there. Now, when that time is, I don't know when that'll be, but there's certainly a fire there."
