There is no denying the New York Giants will be among the teams most involved in the quarterback market this offseason.

Whether it's looking to find a foundational piece for the future with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft or acquiring a veteran bridge option to hold over until the Giants find a better option, changes are coming to the quarterback position.

One of the biggest names likely to hit the trade market is Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins, who was benched during the final month of the 2024 season.

Given the Giants' need at the position and the Falcons moving forward with first-round pick Michael Penix Jr., a potential trade could benefit both sides, according to Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report.

Here's the proposed trade idea from that sends Cousins to the Giants:

  • Giants receive: QB Kirk Cousins
  • Falcons receive: 2025 fourth-round pick, S Dane Belton

"Cousins could be the team's immediate starter to open the 2025 campaign. General manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll, whose jobs were in question, could look for a quick start the next season with a proven signal-caller," Moton wrote. "The Falcons may be interested in Dane Belton. He's flashed in a limited role, logging 74 tackles, five for loss, 11 pass breakups, and five interceptions while playing less than 43 percent of the Giants' defensive snaps in all three of his seasons."

Taking on Cousins' contract, which was for $180 million and included $100 million guaranteed, would be a disaster move for the Giants. The Falcons would likely need to eat the majority of the contract, especially if they're getting a draft pick and a player.

Through the first nine games of the season, Cousins threw 17 touchdown passes and seven interceptions with a 101.1 passer rating. He averaged 258.7 passing yards per game.

However, his numbers cratered in the five games to follow. Cousins threw just one touchdown pass while throwing nine interceptions and recording a 66.5 passer rating.

It may not be the most likely scenario, but crazier things have happened in the NFL.
