Montana State football is back after a playoff bye last weekend.
The Bobcats hold a 12-0 record, easily defeating just about every team that's come their way. Only two games have been within single digits, and Montana State has scored at least 30 points in every contest.
There's no sign of the Bobcats slowing down, even in their first playoff game of the season. As the No. 1 seed, they have home-field advantage until matchups swap to neutral locations. Montana State will host UT Martin on Saturday, Dec. 7, in the second-round game.
The Skyhawks began the season 1-3 but have flipped the script to stand at a 9-4 record after defeating No. 16 New Hampshire in the first round. Patrick Smith's play in the backfield is essential to this team's success. He has 1,196 yards and 14 rushing touchdowns on 209 carries this year.
When the Skyhawks need yardage, they often lean on Smith. He's run for at least 100 yards in six games this season.
The Bobcats also have a lethal rusher in Scottre Humphrey, who has 1,223 yards and 13 touchdowns. Alongside him is Adam Jones, who has rushed for 908 yards and nine touchdowns.
Tommy Mellott leads this Montana State offense. He's thrown for nearly 2,000 yards at a 68.7 completion percentage and a 22-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He's also run for 640 yards and 11 touchdowns. He's an elite two-way player that UT Martin will need to slow down to advance.
