UConn endured quite the fall from grace during the Maui Invitational, dropping from No. 2 to No. 25 in one week.
It seems the Huskies have gotten back on track as they await Alex Karaban's return from injury. The team won its last two games including a ranked matchup with No. 15 Baylor. At 6-3, UConn has already matched its 2023 loss total, but it's too early to call off title hopes.
The Huskies' play moving forward will determine whether that three-game stretch in Maui was just a rough patch or the real outlook of the team. As they continue their non-conference schedule, they'll visit unranked Texas before wrapping up against No. 7 Gonzaga.
Texas is 7-1 and on a seven-game winning streak. Its only loss came in the season-opener against Ohio State. Freshman Tre Johnson has been incredibly impressive, averaging 20.8 points on 47.6 percent from the field and 44.6 percent from distance. The 6-6 guard is the focal point for this Longhorns offense, so UConn will need to slow him down.
The Huskies have their own freshman standout in Liam McNeeley, who will need to step up if Karaban remains sidelined.
