The Green Bay Packers don't like the Philadelphia Eagles very much right now.
After losing 22-10 to the Eagles in the NFC Wild Card playoffs, the Packers were watching from home as Philadelphia punched its ticket to the conference championship on Sunday. If they want to get revenge, perhaps Green Bay could do some poaching in free agency.
The Packers' interior defensive line was subpar for most of the 2024 season, and the team fired defensive line coach Jason Rebrovich last week following their loss. It's a clear area of need, and fortuitously, the Eagles have a star interior lineman getting set for free agency.
That free agent is Milton Williams, one of the top defenders hitting the open market this spring. The four-year Eagles veteran put up a career year with five sacks, 10 quarterback hits, and seven tackles for loss in 2024.
In a recent roundup of free agency predictions, Sportsnaut's Matt Johnson forecasted a Williams-Packers partnership for 2025 and beyond.
"The Green Bay Packers dipped into NFL free agency heavily last offseason, striking gold with Xavier McKinney and Josh Jacobs. A year later, it’s reasonable to think general manager Brian Gutekunst makes another big move," Johnson wrote.
"Milton Williams, 26 in April, is one of the best interior pass rushers in the NFL and he’s exactly the type of disruptor Jeff Hafley could use in the trenches next season."
Williams can expect a huge pay raise, as he's only made $6.8 million so far in his four-year career. The Packers have $10 million more in projected 2025 cap space than the Eagles (per Spotrac), so that may be one advantage in attempting to pry Williams loose.
Though Williams looks like an ideal fit, the Packers could find any number of linemen to improve on the interior. It looks to be an active spring for Green Bay in the free-agent market.
