Michael van Gerwen next match at World Darts Championships 2024/25: TV schedule, scores, results for former world champion image

There are few bigger household names in the world of darts than Michael van Gerwen, and as the 35-year-old Dutchman gears up for his 18th appearance in the PDC World Darts Championship, the stage is set for him to go one better than he did two years ago and claim a fourth title of his career.

MVG, a world champion in 2014, 2017 and 2019, may have been knocked out by surprise package Scott Williams in last year's quarterfinals, but having gone all the way to the decider in 2023 – a final in which he and eventual winner Michael Smith sent shockwaves across the sporting world – Mighty Mike is all set for another memorable tournament.

Since last year's last-eight exit, world number three Van Gerwen has had something of a quiet year by his standards, losing out to current world champion Luke Humphries in the Premier League Darts playoff semifinals but still collecting victories in the Hungarian Darts Trophy, Dutch Darts Masters, and two Players' Championship wins on the PDC Pro Tour.

Here's everything you need to know about Van Gerwen's next match at this year's World Darts Championship, including a full TV and live streaming schedule, scores and results with the three-time winner on the hunt for his first title since 2019.

When is Michael van Gerwen's next match at 2024/25 World Darts Championship?

Van Gerwen's next match sees the Dutchman take on either Brendan Dolan or Lok Yin Lee in the third round.

The schedule for third round matches has not yet been confirmed but Van Gerwen won't play any sooner than Friday, December 27 with that stage kicking off after Christmas.

The Sporting News will update this section once a date and time has been announced.

Michael van Gerwen World Darts Championships results

The 2024/25 PDC World Darts Championship is the 18th tournament Van Gerwen has played in since bursting onto the scene as a 19-year-old all the way back in 2008. His first two attempts both ended early at the hands of darts royalty, losing in the first and second rounds to Phil 'The Power' Taylor.

After again losing to Taylor in the 2013 final, Van Gerwen picked up his first World Championship crown by beating Peter Wright in the 2014 decider, before two wins in three years against Gary Anderson and Michael Smith in 2017 and 2019 respectively saw him become the competition's second-most successful player of all time.

MVG still has some way to go if he's to catch Taylor on a whopping 14 titles, and has lost two finals since his last crown in 2019. Wright got revenge to beat him in 2020, and Smith did likewise in the 2023 decider, which featured the pair going toe-to-toe at Ally Pally with some of the highest-calibre darts the competition has ever seen.
