Carmel and El Capitan (Lakeside), two of the most underrated high school football teams in California, are ready to battle with a CIF 5-AA state championship on the line.
It's been a dream season for Carmel (14-0), as the high-scoring Padres are fresh off a 62-point outing in the Central Coast Section finals and 42 points in the regional championship. They're averaging over 45 points per game, and they haven't been held to 30 points once all season.
El Capitan (11-3) is a little more balanced, scoring nearly 30 points per game itself but holding opponents to an average of 13 points a contest. After starting 1-3, the Vaqueros have won 10 straight including a San Diego Section Division 4 title and a sweep of the Grossmont - Valley. They have a good chance at state finals glory Friday night, but will be considered an underdog by some against an explosive Carmel team that no one has been able to keep pace with.
