USMNT leading scorers: Christian Pulisic chases all-time career top goal scorers in USA international history image

The United States has had a storied history at the international level, and some legends have taken the field to represent their country.

But records are made to be broken, and those currently in the squad are hoping to move their names into the pantheon of greats and achieve legendary status.

The U.S. national team has been playing international matches since 1885. It played its first officially sanctioned international game in 1916. The Americans participated in the first FIFA World Cup in 1930. More than 800 players have appeared for the USMNT across its history.

The Sporting News brings you all you need to know about the leading goal scorers in U.S. history, all time and among active players.

USA career all-time leading goal scorers

Two players top the USMNT all-time goal scoring list, with nothing to separate two legends.

Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan are tied atop the list, with Dempsey holding the top spot officially thanks to his slightly higher goals-per-game average. The two played together for much of their careers, leading the U.S. in front of net.

Current star Christian Pulisic has a great chance to catch them. He's almost halfway there at just 25-years old. At his current pace, having collected 71 international caps already and scoring in over a third of them, he would become the all-time leading scorer in U.S. history in his 151st cap.
