Last summer, Carolina Panthers top draft pick Bryce Young made his preseason debut against the New York Jets, and it didn't go so well.

The Jets' vaunted defense limited Young to one first down over three possessions, including two three-and-outs. The 2023 No. 1 overall draft pick threw six passes for a 3.5 yards per attempt average with a long completion of eight yards.

This summer, New York will welcome LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels into the NFL. According to an initial report by ESPN's Adam Schefter, Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn plans to play the No. 2 overall draft choice in the preseason opener against the Jets on August 10.

New York and Washington have a joint practice scheduled for Thursday ahead of Saturday's exhibition contest at MetLife Stadium.

It'll be the first chance to see the Commanders' Heisman Trophy winner at the controls in a real game setting. Daniels accounted for 40 touchdown passes to only four interceptions while also rushing for 10 touchdowns in 12 games last season.

The August 10 preseason affair will also provide Jets fourth-round running back Braelon Allen to get his first taste of NFL action.

"Whether it's preseason or regular season, the first game is always that one to look forward to, seeing a different color and just playing against different guys other than you do every day, so definitely excited," said Allen after the Green & White scrimmage in Florham Park.

It's unclear how much time the Jets defensive starters will see, if any, against the Commanders. Daniels probably won't be upset if New York's top dawgs are inactive.

After rudely greeting Young last August, the Jets beat up on the Houston Texans and 2023 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year CJ Stroud in the regular season. New York held Stroud to 91 yards passing on 23 attempts in a 30-6 thumping. Gang Green finished the season ranked second amongst all teams in passing defense (168.3).

This week, the Jets their chance to make another statement against a highly-regarded rookie field general. The Jets and Commanders will kick it off at 12:00 pm ET on Saturday with WCBS carrying the live action.
