It will be one graduate transfer quarterback from an ACC school against another as Sam Hartman and Brennan Armstrong face off Saturday.
Hartman, the Wake Forest-turned-Notre Dame QB, takes over at the helm of the No. 10 team. In the season opener in Dublin, Hartman threw for four touchdowns, tying the record for most TDs in an Irish debut.
NC State will be the toughest opponent yet for Notre Dame after it cruised through the first two games. A test is needed, though, before facing Ohio State in two weeks.
Armstrong, a Virginia transfer, is the Wolfpack's quarterback of choice after setting the Cavaliers' career passing record in 2022 and the UVA single-game passing record in 2021. Armstrong and Hartman have faced off before. In 2021, the Demon Deacons bested the Cavaliers 37-17.
With five full seasons under his belt, Armstrong's experience and leadership is undoubtedly crucial for a successful offense. Still, pressure from dedicated sophomore MJ Morris could shake up the quarterback room.

NC State will have a major advantage by hosting the Irish in the fourth-ever matchup between the programs.
Home-team Notre Dame earned its first win against the Wolfpack in 2017, while NC State got the victory the year prior when the teams played in Raleigh. In the 2003 Gator Bowl, NC State defeated the Irish.
