College football blue bloods clash when No. 18 Michigan hosts No. 11 USC on Saturday afternoon, marking the first-ever Big Ten meeting between the two programs.
The Wolverines (2-1) have endured a shaky first three weeks of the season, as new head coach Sherrone Moore ushers in a new era on the heels of a national championship. Junior quarterback Alex Orji is primed to make his first career start, replacing Davis Warren, who threw three interceptions in last week's 10-point win over Arkansas State.
Orji, known most for his ability to run the ball, will try to unlock a Michigan offense that has thus far proven stagnant. Running backs Donovan Edwards (4.2 yards/carry) and Kalel Mullings (7.5 yards/carry) are the keys to the Wolverines' patented run game, which succeeded last week against the Red Wolves.
For the Trojans (2-0), junior quarterback Miller Moss has wasted little time demonstrating that last year's six-touchdown cameo in the Holiday Bowl was no fluke. Moss has thrown for 607 yards and two touchdowns this season, and engineered an impressive 27-20 win over LSU in Week 1.
The two schools last met in the Rose Bowl in 2007, a 14-point Trojans' victory.
