Is ECU’s James Moore real? What to know about the lowest-rated player in College Football 25 image

EA Sports College Football 25 has all the fan-favorite players, from Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter to Arch Manning and ... James Moore?

Never heard of Moore before? That's understandable. He's a fourth-string freshman quarterback on East Carolina's roster in the new college football video game.

The Pirates' football team isn't very popular to begin with, but fans of even the most well-known programs likely don't know their fourth-string quarterback by name.

Moore has a 12 overall rating in College Football 25, which leaves some players wondering if he's even a real person. The Sporting News answers the question.

Is ECU’s James Moore real in College Football 25?

Moore is not a real person — or at least not a real player on the ECU football roster. It seemed unlikely when users discovered the player, since he's only a 12 overall, but it's now confirmed.

It's likely that Moore is a random-generated character that EA Sports used to fill a roster spot. This is very common in sports video games, as some players and coaches opt out of the licensing agreement.

It's most common with historic teams featured in video games, since leagues typically have an agreement for all players to be included in games. For example, Charles Barkley isn't included in NBA 2K, so the game replaces him with a computer-generated player.

Bill Belichick also infamously is left out of the Madden series and is replaced with a generic head coach.

The generic players are typically lower overall and not in the main rotation or lineup for teams. Still, a 12 overall is absurdly low.

East Carolina has three quarterbacks on its 2024 roster, and Moore isn't one of them. There isn't a Moore — or a James, for that matter — on the Pirates' roster for the 2024 season. There is also no Moore on the coaching staff.
