Boston Red Sox star slugger and third baseman Rafael Devers has been ice cold at the plate for the past 30 games, and his stats reflect it. He simply can’t put the ball in play and get on consistently.

Before the All-Star Break, he was a menace. He slashed .291 with 92 hits, 23 homers, 61 RBIs and 62 runs.

In the past 30 games, he has slashed .188/.270/.295/.564. In the past 15 games, he’s hit .192/.306/.212/.518. In the last seven, he has hit a pitiful .130/.286/.130/.416. He hasn’t hit a homer since August 25th, which is the fourth longest drought of his career. He has hit five home runs since the break.

Devers has been dealing with an injury since the break, where he opted out of the All-Star festivities to rest and hopefully heal it. It seems like he hasn’t been able to, since he has only gotten one extra base hit in the past 20 games.

As soon as the Red Sox are totally out of playoff contention, the Sox should just bench him so he can start healing fully, and then put him to work so his body doesn’t break down halfway through the season.
