Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora gave an emotional, heartfelt speech to his team after their win against the Kansas City Royals, giving Cora his 500th win as a manager. This makes him the fourth most-winningest skipper in Sox history.

“I knew this one was coming. I knew it,” said Cora. “It’s been fun the whole year. Obviously, me and my family made a big commitment a few weeks ago…what you guys bring to the equation on a daily basis in my life, it’s amazing. I love it.”

The commitment Cora was referring to was his contract extension, which was for three years, $21.75 million, making him the second-highest paid manager in baseball.

Cora then got more into his speech, talking about how he hopes his players think he fights with them. “Game one in Tampa, when we won, up to this day, I get anxious, because of you guys. Because I live it with you guys. Every pitch, every at-bat, I hope you guys feel that I fight every pitch with you guys.”

Cora ended it with a hopeful thought about the future. “We got a big shot to win this thing. And it’s because of you, you guys are very talented and I think we can do it. You guys are humble, and you are hungry. Let’s keep going.”

Cora will be chasing his 501st win tonight against the Kansas City Royals at 8:10pm EST.
