Golf fans won't be able to take a break after last weekend's Memorial Tournament, as the 124th U.S. Open is heading back to Pinehurst, N.C., beginning with Round 1 on Thursday.
The third major of the 2024 season will be played at Pinehurst No. 2. The last time the U.S. Open was held at Pinehurst was in 2014, when Martin Kaymer won the second major of his career by eight strokes.
Scottie Scheffler, the top-ranked golfer in the world, is coming off a win at the Memorial Tournament, his fifth win of the PGA season. Scheffler has also won the Masters and Players Championship. With all of his success this season, he enters the tournament as the heavy favorite.
Scheffler will tee off in Round 1 alongside Xander Schauffele and Rory McIlroy. Recent U.S. Open winners Wyndham Clark, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka are also players to watch. Jon Rahm will not be on the course, as he had to withdraw from the event because of a foot issue.
Fifteen-time major champion Tiger Woods will also compete, looking to add to his major total.
