The San Francisco Giants have some work to do after Tuesday's word that staff ace Blake Snell is joining the Los Angeles Dodgers.

However, MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reports that the Giants are in play to sign Corbin Burnes away from the Baltimore Orioles.

"The Giants, who now must replace Snell in their rotation, are believed to have significant interest in Burnes," Feinsand wrote.

The 30-year-old Burnes was the No. 1 starter for Baltimore last season after holding that spot for the previous three seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers.

A 2021 National League Cy Young Award winner and four-time All-Star, Burnes is 199-138 with a 3.19 ERA and 1,051 strikeouts over seven Major League Baseball seasons.

Burnes, represented by notorious agent Scott Boras, won't come cheap. Spotrac projects the 2021 NL Cy Young Award winner to command a contract of six years at $180 million.

However, with the Dodgers landing Snell, Feinsand quotes an anonymous NL executive saying that the numbers for Burnes will go even higher.

“Burnes definitely gets more years. Not sure if the (Average Annual Value) is all that different, but the extra years should make it a much bigger number.”

Feinsand wrote that, "there's no reason to think that Burnes' deal won’t be worth more than $200 million."

Without Snell, FanGraphs currently projects the Giants starting rotation led by Logan Webb, Robbie Ray, and Jordan Hicks.
