The Dallas Cowboys have been known as "America's Team" since the late 70s, but with how irrelevant the franchise has been for so long, many believe a different team should own that title — and there is no better team to take it than the Detroit Lions.
The Lions have become arguably the most liked franchise in the league over the past few years. That's a result of the Lions rising to prominence as one of the best teams in the NFL after being a lovable loser for much of the franchise's history, and because of the team having so many likable personalities, like head coach Dan Campbell.
One person who subscribes to the idea that the Lions should be "America's Team" is Lions safety Kerby Joseph, who said so on the "Kickin It With Dee" podcast.
"We're America's Team, bro," Joseph said. "We're America's team... I just like to tell it how it is. I just like to speak facts. Every time we're on, like, come on now, everybody watching us. Everybody's cheering for us."
On top of their recent struggles, another reason why the Cowboys should be stripped of the title has to do with over-exposure. Even at their worst, the Cowboys are often the lead story — or close to it — on national sports talk shows, which has led to the viewing public growing sick of hearing about the franchise.
Meanwhile, the Lions are the most exciting team to watch in the NFL with their explosive offense and improved defense that has Detroit sitting at 10-1 and owning a share of the best record in the NFL, along with the Kansas City Chiefs. In fact, the Lions have an outside chance of clinching a playoff berth this week.
