South Carolina Gamecocks betting news

The Gamecocks are solid on both ends of the floor, ranking 40th for adjusted offensive efficiency and 45th for adjusted defensive efficiency on KenPom. South Carolina may not blow many away with its advanced metrics, but it plays very disciplined basketball and doesn't allow other teams to take advantage of their own errors. That has helped them keep many matchups close, and they often finds ways to win late in tight contests.

South Carolina does not have any elite scorers, with just three averaging double-digits. Leading scorer Meechie Johnson only averages 14.4 PPG. Add in B.J. Mack (13.5 PPG) and Collin Murray-Boyles (10.3 PPG), and the Gamecocks spread it around and often get big games from one of their top three when they need it. While no player averages over 15.0 PPG, at least one player has scored over 20 points in four of their last five contests.

The player to watch out for is the third-leading scorer Collin Murray-Boyles, who has flourished during his freshman season. The 6-foot-7 forward only scored in double figures three times in his first 15 games. Over the last 11 games, Murray-Boyles has scored in double figures in 10, including his second-highest point total (24 points) of the season in yesterday's win over Arkansas.

Auburn Tigers betting news

Auburn has had an incredible year and ranks highly in most statistical categories. The Tigers rank 11th for adjusted offensive efficiency and sixth for adjusted defensive efficiency on KenPom, and they can beat opponents on either side of the floor. A big reason for that starts with their star player.

Johni Broome averages 16.3 PPG, 8.5 RPG and 2.3 BPG, leading the team in each. The 6-foot-10 forward can really do it all and affects the game in so many different ways. He has a strong supporting cast, starting with his partner in the frontcourt, Jaylin Williams, the Tigers' second-leading scorer (12.9 PPG). The one area where Auburn could stand to improve is its guard play.

They have six guards averaging between 14.7 and 22.3 minues per game, which allows them to stay fresh. But it would be nice for one of them to step up and force their way into more playing time. If the Tigers can consistently get above-average guard play, they have the frontcourt that could compete in the NCAA Tournament.

South Carolina vs. Auburn prediction: Auburn handles the Gamecocks

The Tigers destroyed South Carolina in their only matchup of the season, and while there won't be another 40-point victory, they match up well with the Gamecocks. That should help them exploit South Carolina's weaknesses, leading to an Auburn win and a spot in the SEC semifinal.

Pick: Auburn
