The New York Giants are expected to turn to Drew Lock as the starting quarterback for the Thanksgiving matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.
After benching and releasing Daniel Jones, who signed with the Minnesota Vikings, the Giants promoted third-string passer Tommy DeVito to the starting position over Lock, who has spent the entire season as the backup.
However, DeVito suffered a forearm injury and is not expected to play against the Cowboys on Thursday afternoon.
Lock is reportedly in line to make his first start of the season, according to Art Stapleton of NJ.com.
"The expectation is that Lock will start at quarterback for the Giants for their Thanksgiving Day game against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday afternoon, two individuals with knowledge of the situation told NorthJersey.com," Stapleton wrote.
Stapleton also reported that DeVito is expected to be the emergency quarterback despite the forearm injury.
The Giants signed Lock last offseason to a $5 million deal as the backup to the aforementioned Jones. Despite working as the backup all season, the Giants opted to promote DeVito over Lock in a surprising move.
Now, Lock will get his chance to show off any developments he's made during practice throughout the season in what will be his first spot start of the campaign.
