The Philadelphia 76ers need help at the power forward position. While they could use a more talented starting four, having a youthful one brings more intrigue.
It’s not like those grow on trees, but one possible option is Chicago Bulls forward Patrick Williams. Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer reported that the Bulls are willing to trade him.
“One name that would be fascinating," Fischer began. "That I know his team is more willing than ever to discuss him in a trade, and if you're looking at names that would potentially be someone who you could grow and develop a little bit… Is there an opportunity for you to look at someone like Patrick Williams in Chicago?”
How the Sixers could acquire Williams
There haven’t been any reports tying Philadelphia to Williams as of now. However, Liberty Ballers’ Harrison Grimm explained how Williams’ availability via trade could connect to the Sixers.
"The Sixers are reportedly in the market for a PF, and Patrick Williams would make sense as a potential target. He could help now, and he’s only 23 years old," Grimm wrote. "He’s making $18M a year flat for the next five years. A high number, but the Sixers could get there if they wanted."
The Bulls gave him that extension during the 2024 offseason. Williams is a solid wing, but it might be a red flag that Chicago has seemingly already given up on him. That may have more to do with their current place in the NBA than anything else.
Because the Sixers are under the NBA’s second tax apron, they can aggregate contracts to make a trade for Williams. The most likely candidates in this instance would be Kelly Oubre Jr. and KJ Martin.
There are better players out there for whom the Sixers could trade, but if Williams can be had for a reasonable price, they could also do much worse than him.
