With Paul George out for the next little while with his latest knee injury and time running out to salvage their season, the Philadelphia 76ers need to think about wing depth in particular.

More specifically, they must think about improving their wing depth.

They have the contracts and the draft assets to improve that particular position. However, if they’re going to chase after a wing upgrade, they need a proven option.

Brooklyn Nets wing Dorian Finney-Smith fits this description. He’s a 3-and-D veteran who has been a contributor for playoff teams. He has a well-known reputation around the league for what he does, which explains why he has been brought up before as an option for the Sixers.

With the Nets this season, his numbers are as good as ever—10.8 points on 46.6% shooting and 41% from three—which should attract suitors like the Sixers if they’re not already attracted.

How the Sixers could acquire Finney-Smith

If the Nets decide that they want to part ways with the 31-year-old, FanSided proposed a trade between the Nets and Sixers in which the following would happen.

Sixers receive: Finney-Smith

Nets receive: Kelly Oubre Jr., KJ Martin, 2028 first-round pick

Oubre has been a strong contributor since joining the Sixers, but he’s more of a scorer than a floor-spacer. Finney-Smith is unquestionably an upgrade who would fill more holes. If that deal is what it takes to get him, and the Sixers still aspire to make the playoffs, they should take it immediately.

The one problem is the Nets have been surprisingly entertaining, even if they’re fighting tooth and nail just to be competitive. They may not want to get rid of someone who could help them build their next playoff team. If they do, they may want more than what this trade outlines.
