The 26-year-old's lower left leg snapped upon landing, with his foot left dangling as he lay on the floor in agony.

Said, who was taking part in the men's artistic qualification event, was carried away by medical staff at the Rio Olympic Arena after sustaining the gruesome injury on day one of the Games.

French team leader Corrine Moustard-Callon said: "He made a technical mistake. He is in the hospital with a doctor now. We will give more news when we have it.

"We don't know what happened, except that it was his tibia."

Said won gold on the rings at the 2013 European Championships in Moscow and has also claimed three silver and two bronze medals at the Euros.
