Mexico Copa America 2024 squad: Jaime Lozano's complete list of players in national team roster for USA tournament

Mexico are back on the Copa America stage this summer after missing out on the previous two tournaments.

On the back of reaching the quarterfinals back in 2016, El Tri were not involved in 2019 and 2021. Despite those absences, Jaime Lozano's side are amongst the dark-horse candidates for glory in the USA.

A run into knockout stages is the minimum expected for Mexico after being dropped into Group B alongside Ecuador, Venezuela and Jamaica for the competition.

Lozano has hit the ground running since taking charge of the national side back in June 2023, leading them to the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup title last summer.

But the coach is not afraid to take big decisions, and axing timeless trio Guillermo OchoaHirving "Chucky" Lozano and Raul Jimenez is the key news for the squad as they prepare to head over the border.

How many players are in Copa America 2024 squads?

Teams had the opportunity to name provisional squads of up to 55 players for pre-tournament training camps and friendly matches. These groups had to be a minimum of 35 players and contain at least four goalkeepers.

The final rosters, which must be confirmed by June 15 (except for Paraguay, who have until June 18), comprise a maximum of 26 players. At least three of these players must be goalkeepers, and they must all be selected from the provisional squad, except in exceptional circumstances.

Lozano was expected to keep faith with the majority of the squad that delivered Gold Cup success less than 12 months ago, with a core of players plying their trade in Europe this season.

But Lozano and Jimenez were not asked to come in to bolster his attacking options, especially with Santiago Gimenez having been in electric form for Arne Slot's Feyenoord in 2024.

And former captain Ochoa was overlooked in favor of younger options, with the 38-year-old excluded from the initial list in arguably the biggest surprise.

Lozano announced his 26-man squad for Copa America on June 14. Notable cuts include Angel Malagon (injury), Jose Antonio Rodriguez, Victor Guzman, Fernando Beltran, and Jordan Carillo. Tigres winger Diego Lainez was ruled out of Copa America due to an injury suffered at the end of the Liga MX season.

Ages, caps are correct as of June 20, 2024 and the start of Copa America 2024.

Can Mexico replace players on Copa America roster?

Once the final roster has been made official, changes can only be made due to injury or illness up until the team's opening match of the tournament.

CONMEBOL's tournament regulations state: "In case of serious injury or detection of pathological clinical elements of any player, after the submission of the squad list, and which prevents the player from playing in the tournament, the replacement of such player by another player included in the provisional squad list will be allowed up to 24 hours before the first match of the team in the competition, subject to the approval of the CONMEBOL Medical Commission."

Mexico Copa America 2024 schedule, matches

Mexico played three warm-up matches in June prior to the Copa America. After a 1-0 win over Bolivia, they suffered a demoralising 4-0 loss to Uruguay in which Liverpool's Darwin Nunez scored a hat-trick.

They restored some pride against Brazil, although they lost to a 96th-minute Endrick winner despite making it 2-2 just four minutes earlier.

El Tri begin their Copa America campaign on June 22 against Jamaica at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
