The quarterfinals of the FA Cup are being held over the course of a single weekend on March 19-20.
Second-tier English Championship sides Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough advanced to the last eight along with a group of six Premier League sides which includes the top three in the league table: Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea.
There are two all-Premier League matchups on tap, while Liverpool and Chelsea take trips to visit the two second-tier Championship sides (noted with a 'CH').
Half of the quarterfinalists reached this same stage last season: Southampton, Manchester City, Chelsea and Everton also made it to the 2021 FA Cup quarterfinals. There was also only one Championship side at this stage last year (Bournemouth).

The eight quarterfinalists emerged from the eight Fifth Round matchups.
All but two of the clubs (Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough) have previously won the FA Cup, though Nottingham Forest's last triumph came all the way back in 1956. Southampton have been waiting a while to hoist the trophy again since last winning it in 1976.

We were guaranteed not to have an all-Premier League quarterfinal with Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield facing off in the Round of 16. Tottenham then also lost to Middlesbrough.
The last non-league side in the competition, Boreham Wood (fifth division), fell in the Round of 16 to Everton. The Hertfordshire club went deeper in the FA Cup than they did in the FA Trophy (competition for teams in fifth division through eighth division).
Outside of Boreham Wood and the Premier League teams, every other team in the Round of 16 hailed from the Championship (noted with a 'CH').

When are the FA Cup quarterfinals played?
The quarterfinals will be spread across the weekend of March 19-20. With a full slate of Premier League matches and all but two Championship teams scheduled for league action that same weekend, there was some rescheduling necessary.
Only four Premier League matches will be played between Friday and Sunday, giving way to the FA Cup quarterfinals.
The quarterfinal winners will face off in the semis on the weekend of April 16, while the final will be held at Wembley on May 14.
- Round of 16 (Fifth Round): Tuesday-Monday, March 1-7
- Quarterfinals: Saturday-Sunday, March 19-20
- Semifinals: Saturday, April 16
- Final: Saturday, May 14
Unlike the first two rounds of the competition, every match remaining in the competition must be decided on the day it is played, with no chance of a replay.
If the game finishes in a draw, then it will proceed into a 30-minute extra time period. If the score is still level after extra time, the game will be decided by a penalty-kick shootout.
