Iditarod standings 2024: Updated results, current leaderboard for Alaska dog sled race image

The Iditarod continues to be the largest and most popular dog sled race in the world as it wrapped up its 52nd year of competition.

"The Last Great Race on Earth" takes place in Alaska each year, as one musher and a team of 12-14 dogs race from Anchorage to Nome over an average of 8-15 days.

In order to qualify as a finisher, the musher needs at least five dogs pulling the sled across the finish line.

Dallas Seavey was the first musher to cross the finish line, winning his record sixth Iditarod. The 37-year-old native of Talkeetna, Alaska finished the Iditarod in nine days, two hours, 16 minutes and eight seconds. He won just over $55,000 for first place.
