The Panthers are just too good in the third period.

After leading the league in third-period point differential in the regular season, they’re doing it again in the playoffs. It showed in Monday night’s 4-1 win over the Oilers in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Evan Rodrigues was the hero, as he broke a 1-1 tie unassisted and tipped in the team's third goal to put the Oilers in trouble over halfway through the third period. His second goal shattered Edmonton's vaunted penalty-kill streak.

Florida outshot Edmonton significantly earlier on, but the Oilers still had the 1-0 lead via Mattias Ekholm's first-period goal. The Panthers scored four unanswered starting in the second period with Niko Mikkola.

Sergei Bobrovsky made 18 saves, allowing one goal that trickled through the five-hole — his only mistake of the night. Stuart Skinner had a much tougher night, facing 28 shots and saving 25 of them.

The Oilers pulled Skinner with just under six minutes remaining, and Aaron Ekblad scored an open netter from mid-ice with 2:28 to play.

Florida has the odds in its favor, as 91 percent of teams to lead 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Finals go on to win the title. The series shifts to Edmonton for Games 3 and 4.
