The Pittsburgh Steelers have all sorts of issues at the wide receiver position ahead of the 2024 NFL trade deadline. Not only do they need more depth, but it also appears that their No. 1 wideout, George Pickens, is unhappy.
Pittsburgh was close to trading for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk during the offseason, but the 26-year-old ultimately decided to sign an extension to stay.
Since then, Pittsburgh hasn't been able to address the position. With that in mind, Bleacher Report's Scouting Department believes the Steelers may end up landing Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams before the NFL trade deadline.
NFL trade speculation is starting to heat up, and Davante Adams is undeniably the biggest name who could be on the move. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that talks are expected to intensify this week.
The NFL insider also noted that the Steelers, Bills and Ravens are monitoring the situation and "could get into the mix." Adams might have the biggest impact on the Steelers offense out of all the teams interested. They just don't have options outside of George Pickens that can really scare opposing secondaries, and Arthur Smith has the Steelers offense looking more viable than any of Pittsburgh's other post-Ben Roethlisberger offenses.
As Bleacher Report noted, the Steelers are among the teams in the mix for Adams, and it has been reported that he's open to playing for them. However, it seems that Adams prefers the New York Jets first, and the New Orleans Saints second.
But Adams' preferences aren't all that matter. The star wideout doesn't have a no-trade clause and the Raiders are going to look for the best deal possible before pulling the trigger.
Knowing that, Steelers general manager Omar Khan has a chance to swoop in and land Adams with the right deal. Also per reports, Las Vegas wants a second-round pick and additional compensation, whether that be another draft pick or a player.
That might seem too rich considering Adams' contract and age, but if Pittsburgh is really keen on making the upgrade to the wide receivers room it so desperately needs, the team is going to have to overpay.
