Denver Broncos should steer clear of linebacker being connected to team

The Denver Broncos have had an adventure at the inside linebacker position in 2024 and for that reason, the team is likely keeping its eyes and ears open for potential reinforcements.

Second-year player Drew Sanders was hurt back in April and likely won't play this season. Leading tackler Alex Singleton is out for the season with a torn ACL.

The Broncos are going forward with Cody Barton, Justin Strnad, Kristian Welch and Levelle Bailey. Those players have stepped up (Strnad in particular), but the team could use more depth. Veterans Kwon Alexander and Zach Cunningham were added to the practice squad recently and it wouldn't be a surprise to see one or both of them play this season.

However, one name that recently became available will be instantly attractive to many Broncos fans — Devin White.

As soon as White entered the league in the 2019 NFL Draft, Broncos fans felt like he would have been a great fit in Denver. At one time, he might have been, but not anymore.

White was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the No. 5 overall pick in 2019 and he spent five seasons there, helping the team win a Super Bowl and going to the Pro Bowl in 2021. But in the NFL, the drop-off comes abruptly for many players and that appears to be the case with White.

Still just 26 years old, White is a free agent after being released by the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this week.

Broncos should pass on signing Devin White

White still has youth on his side and he could fill an immediate need for the Broncos, but there are a couple of red flags.

For a player with five seasons and a Pro Bowl under his belt who has also won a Super Bowl, White was given just a one-year deal in free agency this offseason. The Eagles quickly had some buyer's remorse.

Not only did the Eagles part ways with White just five weeks into the season, but he never played a single snap for the team. There has to be a good reason for that, right?

The Broncos have had one of the top-performing defenses on this young season. There is no reason to add White to the mix right now.
