College football fans in New York, get ready: the Pinstripe Bowl makes its return to Yankee Stadium this December!
The annual FBS game, which has been held at the home of the Bronx Bombers since 2010, will kick off on Saturday, Dec. 28 at noon ET.
The Pinstripe Bowl previously had ties with the Big 12 and Big East Conferences, but now has affiliations with the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and Big Ten Conference. The winner receives the George M. Steinbrenner Trophy, while the bowl's most valuable player receives the David C. Koch MVP Trophy.
The Pinstripe Bowl is one of only four bowls held in an outdoor cold-weather stadium. The others are the Military Bowl (Annapolis, MD), the Fenway Bowl (Boston, MA) and the famous Idaho Potato Bowl (Boise, ID). The only bowls held in baseball stadiums are the Fenway Bowl (Fenway Park) and Rate Bowl (Chase Field).
We don't quite know who will be competing in this year's Pinstripe Bowl, but we're confident it will be yet another instant-classic of a game. College Football Playoff 2024-25 format, bracket
In this year's CFP, the top-four teams will earn a bye to the quarterfinals while seeds 5-12 will play a first round game. The top teams will be the top-ranked conference winners. While the Pinstripe Bowl is not a part of the CFP, it will most likely feature two solid teams that don't make the CFP.
On Dec. 8, Selection Day, the committee will assign games to the 12 teams headed to the playoffs. For those headed straight to the quarterfinals, they will play one of four bowl games: Fiesta Bowl, Rose Bowl, Peach Bowl and Sugar Bowl. Bowl designations will be determined based on geographical location and a team's historical relationship to the game.
The semifinals will be played at the Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl while the national championship will be in Atlanta.
Because of the elimination-style bracket, participating teams and matchups will not be revealed until the playoffs commence and teams win their way through each round.
Below is a breakdown of of the bracket. You can find playoff projections for each week here.
