After six years, Jimbo Fisher is no longer at Texas A&M. The coach, who brought in some of the highest-ranked recruiting classes over the years, put together a 45-25 record with the Aggies. They had just two winning seasons int he SEC during his post. With national championship expectations, Texas A&M fired its coach in November before the season was even over.
In comes Mike Elko. The new hire spent just two seasons at Duke but executed one of the best program turnarounds in CFB. After failing to win an ACC game in 2021, Elko coached the Blue Devils to a 9-4 (5-3) record, which included a bowl win.
His first game with the Aggies will be against his former QB, Riley Leonard. The senior transferred to Notre Dame following Elko's departure. It'll be tough for Leonard to follow Sam Hartman, but he nearly led the Blue Devils to a win over the Fighting Irish in 2023.
It's not even guaranteed Leonard will be the starter for the Irish, anyway. He suffered an ankle injury during the 2023 season and has since had two surgeries. The transfer has a few months to get back on his feet, but Notre Dame's QB options are open. Especially with the Aggies up first.
