The San Antonio Spurs are once again off to a rocky start. They have won just one of their first four games to start the season and continue to struggle shooting the ball, despite adding to their roster in the offseason.

The Spurs’ defense, led by Victor Wembanyama, has improved, as they are allowing only 109.3 points per game, which is the eighth-best in the NBA. Their offense, though, has continued to struggle. They have scored just 103 points per game, second-worst in the NBA behind the Utah Jazz.

Their offseason additions of Chris Paul, Harrison Barnes and Stephon Castle have yet to make an impact offensively as the rotation continues to develop. If they continue to struggle, they could make a move with the Brooklyn Nets to add a sharpshooting forward in Cameron Johnson and a reserve big man in Day’Ron Sharpe.

The Nets, like the Spurs, are also in a rebuilding phase. They dealt away their star player, Mikal Bridges, in the offseason, and continue to be surrounded by trade rumors. Johnson is a player who has been mentioned in many trade rumors, and if he ends up being dealt, expect the Spurs to be one of the teams in on him.

For the Spurs to acquire Johnson and Sharpe, they would have to give up Keldon Johnson, Blake Wesley and draft capital.

Cam Johnson would make an immediate impact in the Alamo City. The 28-year-old forward averaged 13.4 points and 4.3 rebounds last season while shooting 39.1% from three-point range. His shooting would help the Spurs become a more efficient and better offense, while also opening up the inside for Wembanyama.

Sharpe would give the Spurs another big man to back up Wembanyama. The 6-foot-11 center averaged 6.8 points and 6.4 rebounds last season while shooting 57.1% from the field. His addition would allow San Antonio to continue to develop him and also allow them to trade away Zach Collins, who has not been as good as they had hoped he would be when they signed him in 2021.

While this trade would likely not make the Spurs a contender at the top of the Western Conference, it would help them improve their depth and shooting.
