After a back-and-forth series full of offensive firepower, the Padres and Dodgers have pushed the NLDS to a winner-take-all Game 5.

On Friday night, Los Angeles will host the decisive matchup after each team has claimed two games apiece in the series. The two division rivals have both put together impressive postseason wins thus far, and on Wednesday, the Dodgers fended off elimination with an 8-0 win.

Mookie Betts and Gavin Lux each homered as Los Angeles pushed its season at least one more game and gave itself an opportunity to win the series in front of its home crowd. The Dodgers took Game 1 of the series, 7-5, as Shohei Ohtani hit a home run in his postseason debut, but San Diego held the momentum through Games 2 and 3.

The Padres won those two games with a combined 16 runs, and their offense has caught fire lately. Fernando Tatis Jr. is hitting a blazing-hot .500 through six postseason games, while catcher Kyle Higashioka has homered three times. On the mound, Yu Darvish will get the ball for San Diego in Game 5 after he had an excellent start in Game 2, allowing just one run and striking out three in seven innings. For the Dodgers, Yoshinobu Yamamoto will also start for the second time in the series.

There's been some heated moments in this matchup so far, and those could continue in Game 5. One of these two NL West team's seasons will end on Friday, while the other's will continue against the Mets in the NLCS with a bid to the Fall Classic on the line.

10:20 p.m. — Michael Kopech hits 102 mph on the radar gun to strike out Cronenworth. The Dodgers are three outs away from advancing in the postseason, while the Padres are three outs away from their season ending.

10:18 p.m. — Xander Bogaerts lines out to second and David Peralta pops out to shortstop. Kopech isn't having any issues with the Padres' offense in the eighth so far.

10:12 p.m. — Vesia was originally out to begin the eighth inning for Los Angeles, but Dave Roberts pulled him. The reliever appeared to injure himself while warming up, so the Dodgers are turning to Michael Kopech on the mound.

10:09 p.m. — The seventh inning comes to a close, and the Dodgers need just six outs to reach the NLCS. 

10:05 p.m. — Another good angle on Hernandez's homer:

10:01 p.m. SOLO HOME RUN — Teoscar Hernandez gives the Dodgers a massive insurance run in the bottom of the seventh with a towering shot to left field. It's the second home run of the series for Hernandez.

9:54 p.m. — Alex Vesia gets Jackson Merrill swinging, ending the half inning as Dodger Stadium erupts once again. 

9:50 p.m. — Evan Phillips did his job tonight, opening the top of the seventh with strikeouts against Profar and Machado. His night is over after 1.2 innings, but Dodgers pitchers have been excellent as a potential NLCS berth draws closer. 

9:42 p.m. — Yu Darvish gets the best of Ohtani yet again, striking him out on four pitches. It's Darvish's fourth punchout of the game, and he shuts down the Dodgers' lineup again in the bottom of the sixth. 

9:36 p.m. — The tension of Game 5 continues building, as Phillips gets Tatis to line out to end the top of the sixth. This game continues to move along quickly, but with the Dodgers holding just a one-run advantage, things could change in an instant. 

9:34 p.m. — After an impressive nine-pitch at bat, Luis Arraez grounds out to first for the second out of the inning. 

9:28 p.m. — Evan Phillips officially takes over for Yamamoto in the sixth inning. Here's a look at the Dodgers' support for their starter as he exited the game:

9:25 p.m. — Without Hernandez's solo shot earlier, this game would be an all-out pitcher's duel. Darvish sends the Dodgers down 1-2-3 yet again, and through five innings, he's at three strikeouts, one earned run, two hits and a walk.

9:18 p.m. — Cronenworth grounds out to end the top of the fifth. There's a good chance that's it from Yamamoto, but what a bounce-back outing he's had under some bright lights: five scoreless innings with two strikeouts, two hits and one walk.

9:12 p.m. — Dave Roberts sticks with Yamamoto to begin the fifth inning, and it's paid off so far. He strikes out Bogaerts for the first out. 

9:09 p.m. — Los Angeles goes down in order for the second consecutive inning. Darvish has found a rhythm since allowing the home run to Hernandez, and one run remains the difference in Game 5.

9:00 p.m. — Make it four scoreless innings for Yamamoto tonight. Merrill flies out, ending the top of the fourth. The Dodgers will look to expand their lead with Freeman due up first.

8:58 p.m. — Yoshinobu Yamamoto remains in for the fourth inning. He first gets Jurickson Profar to ground out to first, then Machado flies out to deep right in a similar fashion to his first at bat.

8:53 p.m. — Edman, Ohtani and Betts go down in order, and Yu Darvish recovers from the second inning home run with another scoreless frame.

8:48 p.m. — The Dodgers escape San Diego's threat with a double play. Through three innings, Yamamoto hasn't allowed a run while striking out one.

8:45 p.m. — The Padres are getting to Yamamoto in the top of the third. Kyle Higashioka and Arraez each hit singles, putting two runners on with one out for Tatis.

8:38 p.m. SOLO HOME RUN — Kiké Hernández comes through with a massive swing on his first pitch from Darvish, putting the Dodgers up a run after the Padres turned a double play. Los Angeles takes the lead at home in Game 5.

8:35 p.m. — Darvish walks Max Muncy to begin the bottom of the second. The leadoff man is aboard for the Dodgers with Will Smith coming to the plate.

8:30 p.m. — Yamamoto walked Xander Bogaerts with two outs, but then got David Peralta to ground out. The Los Angeles starter is through two scoreless innings. 

8:26 p.m. — Manny Machado came within a few feet of a home run to right field, but Betts makes the catch near the wall to begin the second inning.

8:22 p.m. — Teoscar Hernandez pops out to end the first inning. No runs, but one hit for the Dodgers through the first frame. 

8:21 p.m. — Mookie Betts grounded out, but Freddie Freeman comes up with a two-out single into right field to keep the inning alive for the Dodgers. 

8:16 p.m. — Shohei Ohtani said previously that he grew up idolizing Yu Darvish, but the Padres' starter gets the best of him in their first matchup tonight. Ohtani strikes out after working the count full. 

8:12 p.m. — Dodger Stadium erupts as Yamamoto strikes out Tatis, then Profar grounds out to second. The Padres go down quietly in the top of the first. 

8:11 p.m. — Arraez grounds out for the first out in the game, bringing up Tatis. 

8:08 p.m. — Game 5 has begun. Yamamoto throws an outside ball to Luis Arraez, and they're under way at Dodger Stadium.
