With UEFA Women's EURO 2022 into the final stage, we are close to finding out who will go home with the trophy this year.

The Netherlands became champions of Europe for the first time in 2017, ending Germany's remarkable streak, and those two are among six previous finalists who qualified for the tournament in England.

Who has won the most UEFA Women's EURO titles?

Germany hold the record for the most Women's Euros titles in history, with eight.

West Germany were European champions in 1989, beating Norway in the final on home soil. Germany then won seven of the next eight tournaments, including six in a row from 1995 to 2013.

Norway have won two, and Sweden and Netherlands have won one each.

Past champions and how they won the UEFA Women's EURO

Sweden won the inaugural edition of the European Competition for Women's Football in 1984, the Women's Euros forerunner. They beat England in a penalty shoot-out at Kenilworth Road, Luton, after a two-legged final left the sides tied at 1-1.

Norway won the 1987 competition after hosting the four-team finals stage. They defeated close neighbours Sweden 2-1 in the final. They also won in 1993, beating hosts Italy 1-0 in the final.

West Germany won as hosts in 1989, beating defending champions Norway 4-1 in the final. As Germany, they won the six editions from 1995: beating Sweden 3-2 in the 1995 final, Italy 2-0 in the 1997 final, Sweden with a golden goal in the 2001 final, Norway 3-1 in the 2005 final, England 6-2 in the 2009 final, and Norway 1-0 in the 2013 final.

Which other teams have reached UEFA Women's EURO finals?

Norway have finished as runners-up four times, and Sweden have reached the final three times.

England and Italy have been runners-up twice each, and Denmark picked up the silver medal once.
