The 2023 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament has lived up to its nickname, March Madness.

There are always upsets early in the tournament, but for the most part, the field tends to get whittled down to the top teams in the country late into the dance.

That wasn't the case this year. For the first time in history, all the No. 1 seeds were gone before the Elite Eight. All but one of the No. 2 seeds were gone as well. The field eventually was left with only one program that has won a national championship before (No. 4 UConn) and three teams that had never reached a Final Four before (No. 5 Miami, No. 5 San Diego State and No. 9 Florida Atlantic).

The madness isn't done just yet. There is still a national championship matchup to be determined. One of the teams in the national championship is guaranteed to be a five- or nine-seed. A national champion has never come from one of those two seeds. Could this year's historic tournament continue to provide some major firsts?

Here's all you need to know about the Final Four in 2023, including the matchups, TV information and more.

Who is in the Final Four in 2023?

The biggest underdog in the Final Four — Florida Atlantic — was the first team to seal its spot in Houston when the Owls took down Kansas State in the East Region. Later Saturday night, UConn continued its dominating tour through the West Region by beating Gonzaga 82-54.

The next day, San Diego State sealed a 57-56 win over Creighton after a controversial foul call helped the Aztecs. In the late game Sunday, a second-half run powered the Hurricanes past the Longhorns in an 88-81 win to punch their ticket to the Final Four.

How many times has Florida Atlantic been to the Final Four?

Prior to the 2023 NCAA Tournament, the Owls had never won a March Madness contest. In fact, they had only made it to the dance once, back in 2002 as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. As a 15-seed in the South region, the Owls were beaten 86-78 by No. 2 Alabama.

The Crimson Tide's time in March didn't last long that tournament, however, as they were eliminated by No. 10 Kent State in the next round.

How many times has UConn been to the Final Four?

The Huskies have been to the Final Four six times, counting this year. This will be the team's first trip under Dan Hurley, who is in his sixth year as the Huskies' head coach.

If the Huskies make it this far, they tend to do well. In its previous five trips, UConn has gone on to win the national championship four times. The only time the Huskies reached the Final Four and didn't win the title was in 2009 when they lost in the Final Four to No. 2 Michigan State.

Year Final Four result National championship

2014 No. 7 UConn 63, No. 1 Florida 53 No. 7 UConn 60, No. 8 Kentucky 54
2023 TBD TBD

How many times has San Diego State been to the Final Four?

The Aztecs are playing in the Final Four for the first time in program history. San Diego State had previously gone as far as the Sweet 16; it reached that round in 2011 and 2014.

In 2011, San Diego State fell to No. 3 Connecticut, which went on to win the national championship. In 2014, the Aztecs lost to No. 1 Arizona, which fell in the Elite Eight to No. 2 Wisconsin.

How many times has Miami been to the Final Four?

A season ago, Miami’s bid for its first Final Four came up short when it lost in the Elite Eight 76-50 against No. 1 Kansas. This year, the Hurricanes officially reached the Final Four with its win against Texas.

Before the past two seasons, the Hurricanes had never made it past the Sweet Sixteen, which it had reached in 2000, 2013 and 2016.
