NBA Finals single-game 3-point records: Warriors' Stephen Curry in a class of his own image

Stephen Curry and the Warriors helped usher in a new style of basketball.

The number of 3-point attempts per game has risen steadily in the last eight seasons, and most of the individual 3-point records are now held by a Warrior — either Curry or Klay Thompson.

Of the top 10 individual 3-point performances in the NBA Finals, nine are from the 2016 Finals series onward. (Hall of Famer Ray Allen made eight 3-pointers in a 2010 Finals game.)

To give you an idea of how much the game has changed, just two of the top 20 came before 2008. Scottie Pippen and Kenny Smith hit seven 3-pointers in the 1995 and 1997 NBA Finals, respectively, and they are now sitting at Nos. 16 and 17 on the all-time list.

Most 3-pointers by an individual in an NBA Finals game

In 2018, Curry surpassed Allen's previous high of eight made 3-pointers in an NBA Finals game when he dropped nine on the Cavaliers. He would end up with 33 points on 11-of-26 shooting, including 9-of-17 from beyond the arc.

Allen drained eight 3-pointers in Game 2 of the 2010 NBA Finals, helping the Celtics to tie the series 1-1. Allen broke the then-Finals record by hitting seven triples in the first half.

Most 3-pointers by a team in an NBA Finals game

The team list also reads very similarly to the individual list. The top 27 teams on the list have hit their totals within the last decade.

You have to scroll all the way down to No. 28 on the list — the Magic mad 14 3-pointers in 1995 — to find a team prior to the 2012 NBA Finals.

The team with the highest amount of made 3-pointers in a game? The 2017 Cleveland Cavaliers with 24. The Cavs shattered the then-record of 18 held by none other than the Warriors. Golden State had set that record in the same series just days earlier.

The Cavs were led by Kyrie Irving (seven 3-pointers), Kevin Love (six), J.R. Smith (five) and LeBron James (three).
