Broncos safety won't play in any games this season

The Denver Broncos have had a rough go of things at the safety position this season, and it is now official that one of their safeties will be shut down for the remainder of the year.

Wednesday was the last day to activate Delarrin Turner-Yell to the active roster after the team chose to open his 21-day window. The team decided it wouldn't be in their best interest to do that and have decided instead to shut him down for the year.

It was always going to be a challenge for Turner-Yell to be much of a contributor to the team this season. He suffered a torn ACL against the Chargers last New Year's Eve and just hasn't been able to recover fully. Now he gets more time to do that.

A fifth-round pick in 2022, Turner-Yell became one of the better special teams players for the Broncos, but he has never offered much on the defensive side of the ball and has struggled when given that chance. He has 42 total tackles and two fumble recoveries during his career.

Delarrin Turner-Yell will look to return in 2025

Turner-Yell will look to return to the lineup next season but it is likely he will have to compete for a roster spot as the Broncos should go through an overhaul at the safety position, at least at the backup spots.

Brandon Jones and P.J. Locke have both dealt with injuries this season, forcing Devon Key to make a handful of starts. JL Skinner is still on the 53-man roster and both Tanner McAlister and Keidron Smith are on the practice squad.

The Broncos moved on from Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson this season but may need to add a prospect at the safety spot in the offseason, either through free agency or the draft.
