The Pittsburgh Steelers' quarterback situation is still unsolved, as the team is waiting on Aaron Rodgers to make a decision and currently lacks a starting-caliber option at the position.
During a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers stated he is in no rush to decide his football future and also said that retirement is a possibility.
Missing out on the future Hall of Famer would be a crushing blow for the Steelers, but FanSided's Christopher Kline believes Pittsburgh should have backup plans in place, one being trading for Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins.
"If the Steelers whiff on Rodgers and opt against drafting a high-level quarterback a week from now, then this feels like a logical outcome for all parties. Cousins gets to join a proven winner under Mike Tomlin, and the Falcons get to reset around Penix," Kline wrote.
Cousins had a rough 2024 campaign, as the veteran tied for the league lead in interceptions with 16 and was benched for Michael Penix Jr. towards the end of the year. With Penix set to take over as Atlanta's starter this upcoming season, Cousins' long-term future with the franchise is incredibly murky.
Though the Falcons initially planned to keep the veteran signal-caller on the roster as Penix's backup, Atlanta head coach Raheem Morris stated during the annual owners meeting in early April that the team would be willing to trade Cousins if the deal can benefit both sides.

With Cousins having a no-trade clause and expressing his desire to be a starter, the 36-year-old would likely be open to a move to Pittsburgh. Cousins could flourish in a Steelers' offense that boasts a dynamic receiver duo in DK Metcalf and George Pickens, a solid offensive line, and a proven offensive coordinator in Arthur Smith.
Additionally, the Steelers will likely have one of the better defenses in football once again, so the unit will take a ton of pressure off Cousins and the offense.
Though signing Rodgers or selecting a quarterback early in the 2025 NFL Draft are the ideal scenarios for the Steelers, there's a chance neither will come to fruition. If so, general manager Omar Khan must consider trading for Kirk Cousins and seeing what happens.
