The Indianapolis Colts kicked off their 2025 NFL draft by using their No. 14 overall selection on Penn State tight end Tyler Warren.
How does that impact their depth chart?
Warren easily projects to be the TE1 on the depth chart because of how big of an impact he can make on both phases of the offense with his pass-catching and blocking ability. This should be expected from a rookie who is selected in the top 15 picks of the first round.
His early playing time will be dependent on how quickly he can pick up Shane Steichen’s offense, but with his versatility, you can expect that Steichen will come up with packages that will showcase his new tight end.
For the rest of the tight end room, their playing time will be dependent on what they can provide for the offense. Drew Ogletree and Mo Alie-Cox will be featured in rushing packages because of their blocking ability.
The final spot in the tight end room will be something to monitor in training camp. Third-year tight end Will Mallory will be looking to make a jump to earn his spot. While Jelani Woods needs to prove he can stay healthy before Chris Ballard can trust leaving him on the final 53-man roster.
Albert Okwuegbunam and Sean McKeon are on the roster but are practice-squad candidates unless either of them has an impressive preseason.
This is how the Colts tight end depth chart projects following the selection of Warren:
