The first day of Women's College World Series play has concluded and four of eight teams have dropped into the loser's bracket in double-elimination play. Among these teams are No. 14 Alabama and No. 10 Duke, who will fight for a chance to stay alive in the race to the title.

Alabama had a tough go against No. 6 UCLA in the first game of the WCWS, losing 4-1 after allowing a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie. Kenleigh Cahalan notched the lone RBI for the Crimson Tide in the fifth inning, sending Kinley Pate home.

Duke had the unfortunate luck of facing No. 2 Oklahoma in its first World Series game in program history. That didn't go so well for the Blue Devils, as they fell 9-1 to the Sooners despite leading first after a home run from Francesca Frelick in the second inning.

These two teams last played in February 2023, when Alabama came out on top in a close 5-4 contest. The WCWS will mark just the second time the Crimson Tide and Blue Devils have played.
