The Las Vegas Raiders own the No. 6 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and Ashton Jeanty has emerged as a prime candidate for the selection. As they continue their rebuild, the Raiders would likely prefer a young talent like Jeanty starting for them at running back rather than their current RB1 – a 33-year-old Raheem Mostert.

In an April 7 tweet, Ian Rapoport reported that the Raiders will host Jeanty in a workout ahead of the upcoming draft. Rapoport noted Vegas’ glaring lack of a “bell-cow, game-breaking running back” as a key motivation for testing the waters with Jeanty. Last year, the Boise State superstar exploded for 2,601 rushing yards – the second-most in college football history.

Sports Illustrated’s Michael Canelo offered further insight into Las Vegas’ plans to assess Jeanty’s potential fit with the organization.

“The Raiders will get to know Jeanty better as they are set to host the Heisman finalist this week in Las Vegas,” Canelo wrote. “This will be a great chance to see what he is all about and if he is a good fit for what Carroll and Spytek are trying to do in Las Vegas. The Raiders need a running back and the team can have their future back in the building sooner than later.”

With Pete Carroll and Geno Smith joining Las Vegas this season, Jeanty could make even more sense for the Raiders. Throughout his coaching career, Carroll has often preached a physical, run-first approach on offense. Meanwhile, Geno Smith is a more-than-capable dual threat, which would only make life easier on an explosive runner like Jeanty.

On paper, Jeanty seems like the perfect choice for Las Vegas. Only time will tell if the Raiders decide to trust the Heisman runner-up as a future building block for their offense.
