Colorado Buffaloes head football coach Deion Sanders may or may not decide to retire former CU quarterback Kordell Stewart’s jersey number while the 52-year-old Louisiana native is still alive.

CBS Sports’ Robby Kalland spoke of Coach Prime’s stance as a complete wildcard in response to Sanders calling out the school for not honoring long-time head coach Bill McCartney until now.

Kalland also claimed Stewart deserves to be one of the next Buffs to be honored like Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter were at the Black and Gold spring game.

“While (retiring Travis Hunter and Shedeur's number) caused backlash, Sanders' feelings on the McCartney situation certainly offers a strong rebuttal to critics who felt it was too soon to retire their numbers,” Kalland wrote.

“Now, we'll have to see if Sanders pushes for other Colorado greats from before his time to be honored as well. One of the biggest criticisms of retiring Shedeur's number has been that Kordell Stewart's No. 10 is not immortalized at Folsom Field, and if Sanders wants the Buffaloes to give their legends their flowers while they are still able to smell them, Slash has to be near the top of the list.”

Sanders allegedly upset Buffs legends, who reportedly want him out of Boulder, due to not respecting Colorado’s roots.

“Coach Deion Sanders is right those former Colorado Buffalo players are just waiting for him to have a bad season so they can try to run him out of there and become a doormat again. Hate real,” 2 Live Crew’s Luther Luke Campbell tweeted.

If anyone knows what’s going on in Coach Prime’s world, it’s someone in the rap industry who was accused of paying out NIL deals at Miami long before it was legal.

Sanders has a lot of work to do to endear himself to those who graced Folsom Field’s home locker room before him.

It’s unclear if he’s willing to.
