West Virginia earns 1,360-point transfer commitment after shock flip from South Carolina image

It's a big Easter Sunday for the West Virginia Mountaineers men's basketball program and new head coach Ross Hodge.

They earned a transfer commitment from a player who just average 18.9 points per game.

The newest WVU player: Treysen Eaglestaff from North Dakota.

Eaglestaff was originally committed to transfer to South Carolina, but he re-opened his recruitment and wound up with West Virginia.

"This was a difficult decision, but after discussing this with my family this is the best course of action for my future. Thank you to Coach Paris and the South Carolina staff for recruiting me during this process," he said on The Field of 68 with Jeff Goodman.

Eaglestaff is an impressive 6-foot-6 and 190 pounds. He has 1,360 points in his college career and has shot it at 37.1 percent from 3-point land.

WVU has a huge transfer class already with guard Chance Moore, guard Jasper Floyd, guard Honor Huff, forward Jackson Fields, forward Brenen Lorient and center Harlan Obioha.

That's what happens in the modern game when a new coach comes in, and Hodge has done the best he can to replenish the roster.

Eaglestaff is a huge get. Schools like Kentucky, Michigan, Kansas and UCLA were also interested in him.

Ultimately, he found a fit in Morgantown for his final year of collegiate eligibility.
